Matcha is so weird. It tastes like grass. There are so many recipes online that make latte with matcha – half n half, oat, soy, cream and what not. I really dont get why everyone is obsessed with it. I get the green appeal though – it looks colorful, fun and makes for an excellent instagram hook but the bottomline is that it tastes like grass.
But then a friend suggested tonic water – supposed to bring the umami flavor profile to the forefront so i said why not
Recipe
- 2g of matcha
- 20g water – 80-90C
- froth until foamy
- add ice to a glass and fill with tonic water.
- add the frothy matcha to the water.
How i made it
Verdict
- Tonic water makes SO much of a difference.
- The matcha doesn’t taste like grass AT ALL!!
- The umami flavour profile stands out.
- This feels very light, refreshing and zero bitterness.
- Matcha latte was heavy while this was very fresh!
