The estate of maldare division c belongs to Kurian, Nisha Thomas and the lovely Anaika, after whom the estate is named as anaikadu. they are stepping into the specialty coffee game this year (2022) and what a dhamaka entry it is. they had coffee coach Binny Varghese (@baristaonbike) with them throughout the processing stage. they presented their babies at the bluetokai new producer’s showcasing event and it’s been hill up since then.
apart from expecting their beans with roasters and customer very soon, they also had some of their beans roasted by Prajwal of Harmakki Coffee and there began the experiment of the blinded samplers.
Their journey is beautifully documented on their instagram page – it talks of everyday life at the farm; everything from the majestic anai that come by their estate to the little creepy crawlies that little anaika tries to cast in resin; there’s a lot of coffee talk and learning interspersed by the cutest pictures of her royal cuteness Bella.(1)
know how you sometimes meet a few people online, never even having looked at their faces much but somehow there’s a connect. that’s definitely there with Nisha of Anaikadu. Our DMs will certify us mad old ladies who talking about everything from old malayalam classics to cleaning products!!! Go figure 😄😄😄
Nisha has also recently started her very own venture “The Better Mushrooms”! Nisha has brilliantly established her own lab where she grows the loveliest oyster mushrooms that people can buy at grocers near their estate. For the ones staying in other states like me, we get to enjoy delicious idly podis that coke fortified with dried mushrooms! Tell you what’s cooler? Our very own shrooms dealer has also success fully grown Lion’s Mane!
The Roaster : Davrah Coffee
Davrah started off with 3 Madras-bred crazies, who met over several cups of coffee in the beginning of the pandemic. While Viggnesh brings his brewing, roasting and research expertise to the table, KV brings his entrepreneurial megamind and Shiv, her nonsensical yet creative genes, curating the face and ethos of the brand.
Sam is our chief roaster and café consultant. He works right from the architectural planning stage, equipment & manpower sourcing to curating menus. Vasanth is our chief of operations, a one-man army. On the front-end, he runs our café and on the backend, he processes all B2B & B2C orders. (2)
They have a cute and superbly cosy cafe setup at Alwarpet and also sell quirky Coffee and/or Madras related merchandise at Abracadavrah
My Thoughts
Ever growing appreciation for robusta for which iam very glad. I tried this first with my coffeeza finero espresso machine and it made an awesome strong cuppa. full bodied with a lovely after taste. as a pourover this gives me a cup that is earthy, full bodied and a tad bit smoky. filter kaapi is best – strong, flavourful.
