When I started on my speciality coffee journey in 2018, the world of coffee was very different. An aeropress meant import, customs and prayers, mot Amazon prime delivery. The excitement about new coffee or equipment was palpable. Now the specialty coffee world seems rapacious, analogous to the makeup-influencer game. A new machine every week, the unpacking of a different toy for every reel.
Bloggers have shifted niche to specialty coffee, making it their whole personality. No harm per se, but can you truly call yourself a home-brewer if you have an electric grinder? I think that’s where I draw the line.
I miss the excitement over new coffee, the conversations over tasting notes and varietals.
The rare discussions about coffee notes are hidden in the DMs, don’t take up front stage. Even lesser noise about prices or the impact of factors on agriculture of coffee.
Posts of the empty coffee bag hoards have been replaced by reels of equipment and the multitude of real estate that hosts them.
I miss the thrill of discovering new brewing methods with the same V60. I miss the fervour with which we would all run to purchase that limited edition bag of beans.
Iam not just blaming the internet at large. I will admit I have been lost in this chaos too! Adrift in the noise that has left me wanting to post, interact and blog less.
Why should I feel lost when I know with certainty, it’s not the herd I want to follow or the cult I want to be part of?
So that’s the core of my coffee blogging for 2025. Views, insights and metrics apart, iam focusing on specialty coffee the way I like it.
All I ask is that you share with me reels and information that align with my thoughts, include me in conversations that show love for coffee rather than the hype surrounding it.
